Lauren Holly’s lasting star power is exemplified by her current warm and humorous portrayal of Dr. Betty Rogers in MotiveCTV/ABC’s hit crime drama series with a twist, which is set for a second season.

New on the 2014 film front, Holly, age 50, will star as Ruth Elliott in the emotional true story Hoovey directed by Sean McNamara of Soul Surfer. Based on the Jeff Elliott novel Rebounding from Death’s Door a couple must cope with their son’s brain tumor. Holly plays the female lead, Mrs. Clindeinst, in the film adaptation of Field of Lost Shoes, an American war drama, alongside Jason Isaacs and David Arquette. Look for her in Uplifting Entertainment’s original movie, The Town that Came A-Courtin’, as she plays author Abby Houston in a romantic, yet terrifying tale.

Holly’s breakthrough film performance came in Dumb and Dumber with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. She gleaned glowing reviews in the Edward Burns drama, No Looking Back. Her numerous other film credits include Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday with Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, and Jamie Fox, Sydney Pollack’s Sabrina, starring Harrison Ford, the action-drama Turbulence, costarring Ray Liotta, and Beautiful Girls.

Past television credits include 67 episodes on NCIS as Director Jenny Shepard, six seasons on Chicago Hope and 87 episodes as Maxine Stewart on Picket Fences.

So Lauren, how do you Mind Your Body with what you eat?
If you had asked me six months ago, I’d have said everything. Since then I’ve pretty much cut out meat and fish. I’m pretty much a vegetarian.

What you do for physical activity?
I’m a high-energy person, I don’t like to sit still that much. I keep a fairly consistent workout schedule. In a good week I take two Bikram yoga classes and have two days to run. I also do sit-ups, push-ups, and maybe trampoline for fun.

What could you do better for yourself?
Remember to pause and take a deep breath.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about health so far?
Everything in moderation—including moderation.

If you could undo one bad health habit, what would that be?
My passion for certain candy.

How do you sustain a positive mental outlook, “get happy”?
Always be thankful. I have so much.

How do you motivate someone you love to make a positive lifestyle change?
Really, I think you can only be an example. People have to motivate themselves.

What one health behavior would you most like to eradicate for everyone and why?
Smoking. It is so insidious and so deadly.

Did you get good health genes?
Mostly. I’ve got some real bullish ones, though, I think.

[Lauren chose this question for herself.] What do you think are the three most important things one can do for their health?
Sleep. Laugh. Love.
